Demographic Feature

Population and Population Growth

Based on the result of the 2015 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the population of the municipality was 64,505. San Mateo’s total population in 2010 was 60,792. The population thus increased by 3,713 or 6.11% between 2010 to 2015 with an annual growth rate of 1.19%. This year, using the computed growth rate, the population of the municipality is projected to reach 66,835 total populations.

Population Density

The population-land ratio in 2015 was five (5) persons per hectare. The total population in the urban area was 9,189 with a population density of forty-eight (48) persons per hectare while in rural area was 55,316 with a population density of five (5) persons per hectare.

Using the projections, it is computed that the municipality has still five (5) persons per hectare, while fifty (50) persons per hectare in the urban area. As compared to the planning standards, the municipality is still considered a low density area.

Sex and Age Composition and Dependency Ratio

The graphs and tables below show the age group of the population in the municipality. It reflects the school going age population, employable group of population and elderly in the municipality. According to the latest census of PSA, there are more male population covering 50.52% or 32,591 persons than female population having 49.48% or 31,914 persons.

It shows that ages 5-9 has the greatest number of population with 9.57% or 6,173 population followed by group of ages 10-14, then ages 20-24, and ages 15-19. Therefore, there are more young citizens or school going age population than other age groups. It pictures in the age group pyramid that there is a decreasing trend in the age grouping as the population becoming older. Meanwhile, 80 years old and over has the least number of population with 1.00% or 642 persons.

Moreover, table 3 shows the sex ratio which indicates that there are 102 males in every 100 females. It also displays the total dependency ratio of the municipality. There are 34 dependent populations (both young (28%) and old (6%)) in every 100 populations in the municipality.
