Making change work for women - Alay sa Kababaihan

Alay sa Kababaihan is a special event for San Mateonian women in which they can avail of different health services for free. This is conducted yearly in observance with the Women‟s Month celebrated every month of March. The activity is a collaborative effort of the Local Government Unit of San Mateo, Office of the Municipal Health Officer, Local Council of Women and JCI San Mateo Balatong. The free health services offered on March 12, 2018 were medical, dental and optical check-up, diagnostic tests such as Fasting Blood Sugar, cholesterol and ECG, screening test for cervical and breast cancer: VIA and breast exam, respectively.

The activity started with a welcome message delivered by Dr. Nikki Rose Agcaoili, Municipal Health Officer. Afterwards, Hon. Crispina Agcaoili and Hon. Roberto Agcaoili gave their messages acknowledging all the women for their invaluable contributions for the betterment of the community. The president of the Local Council of Women in the person of Mrs. Zenaida Remigio also shared her thoughts about the role of women in any aspects of life. Aside from the health services being offered, health advocacies were also conducted simultaneously by the Nurse Deployment Project of the DOH. This is to ensure that every woman is adequately informed about health and wellness as well as to promote prevention and early screening of different diseases. The RHU and SMICH staff were assigned in different services and tasked to assess and assist the kababaihan based on their health needs.

The program ended successfully with 45 women who availed of the free FBS and cholesterol whilst 15 women were screened for breast exam and VIA by Dr. Marileo Pascua. Dr. Yolly Cuaresma served 23 women for optical check-up and Dr. Rolly Gadiano served 25 women for the dental check-up. 39 women were assisted for ECG.

Alay sa Kababaihan served as a wake up call for women and take steps to improve and make their health a priority.
