LGU’s Techno Demo Farm Now Accredited
The LGU's Techno Demo Farm having an area of 2.7 hectares is located at Marasat Pequeño, San Mateo, Isabela. The cash prize of the LGU as a 3-time winner (2011-2013) in the Rice Achievers Award - LGU category was utilized in purchasing this farmland.
Said farm was planted with rice by its previous owner. In the first year of its acquisition by the LGU, it was also planted with rice and gradually converted into an integrated farm. The area planted with rice gradually decreased to have place for the corn, vegetables, banana, fruit-bearing trees and other structures such as vermi compost facility, greenhouse or nursery and a 100-capacity training center. For this purpose, the farm was enclosed through a fence with concrete posts. A 5000 sq.m. fish pond is currently being constructed in the farm. Poultry and livestock pen will also be built in the said farm through a plan in the paper print that was collaboratively made and was consulted among the experts from PhilRice, Agricultural Training Institute and Department of Agriculture.
It was opened to the students of Isabela State University (ISU) San Mateo Campus in June 2015. Prior to accommodating the ISU students, it accommodated private companies who offered free technology demonstration of their products. Varietal trials on mungbean were also distributed to many farmers in the municipality for hunger mitigation in case of long spell of drought.
On September 8, 2017, an ocular inspection of the Techno-Demo Farm Training Center was conducted. This was an enormous success for the LGU since it received a passing mark as it was granted accreditation on November 7, 2017 for two (2) areas namely, Organic Agriculture-NC II and Agri-Crop Production-NC III. There are 25 slots per qualifications that will last for almost one month.
To date, said farm has become a tourist destination for individuals, organizations and institutions supportive and interested in Agriculture.
